Here at Old Pine, we are committed to exploring new ways of being the church. We believe that one of the most powerful mediums is new media: video, photography, and social media. In 2015, we received a grant from the Philadelphia Presbytery to kickstart a series of new programs that use new media to deepen our individual faith and our community witness.
A few examples.
Humans of Old Pine Portrait Series
Inspired by the groundbreaking series Humans of New York, we are using photography to tell the stories of our congregation. Each month in our e-newsletter, we spotlight a church member who is given the opportunity to share honestly about their lives and their faith. View past stories here…
Saturdays for Seniors Instagram Project
For over 40 years, we have hosted a weekly hot meal for low-income seniors from our wider community. These men and women depend on the food we serve. However, we believe that mission is more than meeting a person’s basic needs. It’s also listening to their stories and sharing in community with them. This is why we invited the seniors to participate in a new instagram project sharing their portraits the stories of their lives.
This is yet another way that new media is helping us to deepen our connections with our sisters and brothers inside and outside the walls of the church.
